7. Computer simulation of pyramidal neurons in the cerebral cortex. Michael Häusser and colleagues developed the TREES toolbox based on the quantitative description of neuronal branching from neuroanatomist Ramón y Cajal. It allows automatic reconstruction of neuronal branching from microscopy image stacks. The visualized neurons can then be manipulated and analyzed in ways impossible with real neurons.
