12. A network of Purkinje cells (PCs) in the cerebellar cortex. Purkinje cells form one of the three layers of cerebellar cortex. The axons of PCs gather in the white matter and project to the neurons in deep nuclei at the core of cerebellum. This image was taken by two-photon microscopy. Using infrared light which minimizes light scattering in the tissue, it allows imaging of a living tissue up to a penetration depth of about 1mm.
